Company also leads in high end and enterprise price bands. Fortinet - a market-leading network security provider and worldwide leader of unified threat management (UTM) solutions– today announced that new IDC research data confirms that the company has again ranked No. 1 in worldwide UTM factory revenue for Q1 2009, fueled by continued adoption of its FortiGate™ network security appliances by all-sized enterprises, managed security service providers (MSSPs), and telecommunication carriers. This marks the 13th consecutive quarter Fortinet has garnered this coveted market leadership position. This data makes Fortinet the global factory revenue leader for 13 consecutive quarters.

Data in the latest IDC Worldwide Quarterly Security Appliance Tracker, June 2009, indicated:

* Fortinet is the overall leader in UTM factory revenue for all of Q1 2009
* Fortinet is the No. 1 vendor in the high-end ($50K-$99.9K) price band for both factory revenue and units shipped
* Fortinet is the No. 1 vendor in one enterprise UTM price band segment ($10K-$24.9K) for both factory revenue and units shipped
* Fortinet is the No. 1 vendor in the $1K-$2.9K enterprise branch UTM price band segment for both factory revenue and units shipped
* Fortinet is the overall leader in UTM factory revenue for Western Europe and Asia Pacific

“Fortinet’s latest FortiGate firmware, FortiOS 4.0, with newly-added features such as application control, WAN optimization, data leakage prevention and SSL inspection – raised the competitive bar and has been met with enthusiasm and adoption from our customers across all segments, fueling further demand for our industry-leading FortiGate appliances,” said Ken Xie, founder, president and CEO of Fortinet. “As evidenced by IDC's latest numbers, Fortinet maintains its position at the leading edge of network security industry and is continuing to meet the needs of its rapidly growing global customer base.”

According to IDC, UTM security appliance products include multiple security features integrated into one device. To be included in this category, as opposed to other Threat Management appliance segments, UTM appliances must contain the ability to perform network firewalling, network intrusion detection and prevention, and gateway antivirus. All of the capabilities need not be utilized, but the functions must exist inherently in the appliance. In addition to the mandatory applications, UTM appliances may also host other security or networking features.

Delivered via its flagship family of FortiGate® security appliances, Fortinet provides a flexible platform that enables enterprises and service providers of all sizes to consolidate critical security technology and services to maximize network protection and reduce total cost of ownership. All FortiGate systems are kept up to date by Fortinet's FortiGuard® Network, which provides regular updates that help ensure protection against the most damaging, content-based threats from email and Web traffic such as viruses, worms, intrusions, other unwanted network traffic - around the clock and around the world.
